The European Parliament adopted its position at first reading on the proposed Green Claims Directive in Strasbourg last week. A total of 467 MEPs voted in favour of the legislation and 65 against with 74 members abstaining. The text approved by the plenary sets out the Parliament's position on the Directive, which would create a verification and pre-approval system for environmental marketing claims to protect EU consumers from misleading advertising. The legislative project will be taken up again by the next Parliament following the European elections which are scheduled for early June.
